Composting on Campus

Divert food waste from landfills by participating in GW’s compost drop-off program. Trained student Compost Educators manage a collection site in Kogan Plaza that is open to all students, staff, and faculty who wish to participate.

Through social media promotion as well as advocacy through our Hall Councils, students were encouraged to freeze their compost in community kitchen bins or in their own freezers, which were then returned to Sustainability GW to collect weekly. Compost collection has advanced the University's sustainable goals considerably by reducing food waste, and continues to be a program in progress.
