Frequently Asked Questions
What is RHA?
The GW Residence Hall Association is a group of passionate student leaders dedicated to making every residence hall feel like home. Each residence hall elects four Hall Council members–a president, communications chair, programming chair, and finance chair. Hall Councils have access to RHA’s budget and supplies to put on monthly events to build community in their halls. RHA bridges the gap between residents and GW administration, allowing Hall Councils to advocate on behalf of their neighbors regarding issues such as facilities, dining, safety, accessibility, and sustainability. RHA is a great way to make friends and get involved at GW!
What do Hall Council members do?
The job of a Hall Council member differs depending on the role. Check out the General Body Position page to learn more about the four positions.
What is the time commitment?
Once elected, Hall Council members will be expected to commit 2-4 hours of work each week. To remain in good standing, Hall Council members must meet the mandatory monthly requirements and earn around 130 points. Mandatory monthly requirements differ slightly from month to month but generally include one Hall Council event, two Hall Council meetings, and one General Body meeting. All Hall Council members must meet the same mandatory requirements. Hall Council members may earn points from six categories: General Body meetings, flex events, committee meetings, Hall Council events, Hall Council meetings, and miscellaneous activities. Each Hall Council member can choose the unique way that they wish to earn their 130 points.
